The soundtrack caught my attention this time around as well in a way it never did during my initial taste of the game.
While the art style may not be quite as perfect as what’s found in Pentiment, it still looks stunning, and I love the interaction of your Inkulinati master popping in to draw things during battle. The other thing that really stood out to me in my return to Inkulinati is the stunning presentation.
#INKULINATI YAZA FULL#
Already though, the current version of Inkulinati offers more content than plenty of full releases, and only online multiplayer will really be needed to have it feel like a complete game. This isn’t the sort of game where you can hide what you’re doing, so there’s no need to have separate screens. Online play is in the works as well, though you can play local co-op now, and it works rather well. The developers are promising that during an early access period expected to last about a year, they’ll add more beasts, more battlefields, more Inkulinati masters, and just more content in general. Once I returned to journey mode, I was able to fight my way far deeper than my initial demo of the game allowed and see that there’s quite a bit of content already here, despite the game only being in early access. It’s like mixing the best parts of a deck builder into a more traditional board game. Manipulating both your own pieces as well as those of your opponents is a ton of fun, and I loved the ability to customize my playing pieces and make the deck I want. This mode does a fantastic job of getting new players acquainted with the controls and options in Inkulinati so they can start making the sort of big-brained plays that will make them feel like major geniuses. So I went back to the academy, the mode which is meant to teach new players how things work, and I’m definitely glad I did. Seeing my tiny Inkulinati, the character on the board who represents you, knocked off the board because I forgot how sliding works was definitely disheartening. I was able to eventually muddle my way through a few battles, but I felt like I was constantly fighting my own mistakes. This is a complex game with a lot of rules and choices to make, and with months having passed since I was last able to check it out, my memory of what to do was a lot less clear than I thought it might be.
Having gotten quite comfortable with the controls and complexities of the game, I decided to dive right into journey mode, the multi-part adventure which lets you go through multiple acts which show off a variety of ways to battle and compete. Some things stood out to me this time around however that didn’t during my first chance to check the game out. That’s especially true if you happen to have Game Pass, where this will release on day one.

This is still an outstanding title that players looking for something unique on PC or Xbox consoles should absolutely check out. With the game coming out on January 31 st in early access, I’ve now gotten to spend more time with the game, and I’m glad to report that I stand behind everything I wrote in my last preview.
Offering deep, tactical combat that reminded me of some fantastic board games, I was quickly on board with what the team at Yaza Games is offering. Last fall, I got the chance to try our Inkulinati during a demo that really stood out from the crowd.
